This advisory intends to prevent sensitive information from falling into the wrong hands and highlights the potential risks of keeping wireless network connection settings intact.
The normal initialization process may not delete the wireless network connection settings stored in the printer. These settings contain important information such as the wireless network’s name, password, type, local network IP address, MAC address, and network configuration. If this information is compromised, malicious actors could use it to gain unauthorized access to the network to which the printer is connected.
To resolve this issue, Canon recommends that printer owners take specific steps to manually clear wireless network settings before handing over the printer to any third party.
For printers with a dedicated reset feature, users should follow these steps:
1. Reset all settings by navigating to Reset Settings and selecting Reset All.
2. Enable wireless LAN.
3. Reset all settings again.
On the other hand, for printers without a dedicated reset feature, users should:
1. Reset LAN settings.
2. Enable wireless LAN.
3. Reset the LAN settings again.
